Basic Bomb Handling System

BOMB BASKETS

The baskets are a special construction of laminated ballistic fiberglass which absorbs energy from explosive forces through controlled delamination. (photo 1)

BODY SHIELDS

Shields are made with ballistic fiberglass, are 24" x 36" and weigh approximately 17 lbs. Handles are designed so that the shield balances properly for one-hand carry and can be held on either the left or the right arm. (photo 2)

BODY ARMOR

The light weight body armor is designed to protect all vital body organs. The armor is ballistic fiberglass and is covered with a smooth outer fabric. Elasticized bands hold the chest piece in place, while the back and crotch piece are secured with snaps and Velcro locking bands. Total weight of each 3-piece set is 18 lbs. (photo 3)

LIFTING CLAMPS

Lifting clamps are designed to perform several functions. Jaws can be opened to 14 inches, thus allowing the clamp to be fastened on most window frames, door jams, beams, etc. Their primary function is for depositing a suspected device in a bomb basket from 50 feet away, as described under "Bomb Handling Techniques". In some situations they may also be used for lowering a loaded basket from a window. (photo 4)

ROPES

Two 100-foot ropes and one 200-foot Polypro rope are furnished with each system. They are made of 1100 lb. test PolyPropylene. One end of each rope is equipped with a snaplock hook. Their function is to guide and tow the bomb basket from a distance, rig lifting devices, and remotely drag suspected bombs from inaccessible places for remote loading into a bomb basket. (photo 5)

LIFTING BRIDLE

The lifting bridle is made of 1100 lb. test PolyPropylene. Four ropes are woven into a common lifting ring. Each rope is equipped with a snap-lock hook. This bridle is installed on the bomb basket prior to bomb pick up. With the bridle in place, the basket can be raised or lowered from buildings or lifted into the Bomb Transport Trailer. (photo 6)

DRAWSTRING NET

The net is made of Nylon netting approximately 3 ft. square, with 50 ft. of 1/8" Nylon cord. The end of the cord is woven around the perifery of the netting to form the drawstring. (photo 6)

TRAINING EQUIPMENT

Full color slides, plus a sound tape describing the uses of this equipment, are provided with each system. This kit is invaluable for training and orientation. (photo 7)
