BOMB HANDLING SLED

expl_page4_photo1.jpg (13201 bytes) The bomb handling sled is optional equipment not included in the price of the basic bomb handling system. This unit adds significantly to the protection of personnel during the initial approach and handling of suspected explosive devices. The sled is designed with a protective shell made of non-fragmenting ballistic fiberglass. The frame is welded tubular steel and sheet metal with retractable 4-inch swivel casters in back and 8-inch diameter ridged caster wheels in front. Ballistic side panels and shield are hinged. In transport position, side panels are folded against the frame and the shield rests on the frame and folded side panels so that the assembly can be wheeled like a hand truck to the approach area. Front shield is then raised and side panels unfolded and pinned to the shield with locking pins.

expl_page4_photo2.jpg (16548 bytes) The front section of the ballistic fiberglass shield is built on a 45' angle and curved on a 14-inch radius to help deflect explosive forces. There is a 5" x 7" viewing window made of non-spalling ballistic glass. Holes will be placed as specified by the customer for handling a suspected device with one or two poles. Poles are not provided. The pole(s) may have either a hook or prosthetic device for the handling of the suspected bomb or for dropping a drawstring net over the device.

The sled also provides .357 Magnum ballistic protection and may be used additionally as a portable anti-sniper shield.
