Advantages of the P.D.I.C Ballistic Fiberglass Composite Armored Vehicles
Modules and Transparencies (vans, step vans, rechassissable bodies)
All exterior "modules" are ballistic fiberglass molded sections which have part numbers. in case of damage, each section can be easily replaced in the field with no need for the vehicle to be returned to the manufacturing facility,
All transparencies are flat (excepting passenger cars or special OEM contour orders), bullet resistant glass composites which are far less expensive than contoured OEM-style BR glass. This bullet resistant glass is superior to some of the transparent plastics that are now in use for similar purposes. Acrylic and polycarbonates are susceptible to surface scratches and must be cleaned and maintained with extreme care. Additionally, they are susceptible to fire (such as a propane torch) and chemicals as common as fingernail polish. The P.D.I.C. BR glass composite resists all these.
Transparencies can be easily replaced in the field, thus enabling update or upgrade of the ballistic value of the transparencies without any modification to the module just by following standard installation procedures for transparencies. This can be accomplished in that the modules are designed to accept various thickness of glass.Internal Armor (vans, step vans, trucks)
Internal armor panels or molded parts can be removed and replaced in the field (to upgrade ballistic level); and should the vehicle be 'changed-out,' the armor can be removed and reinstalled into another like vehicle (with a +/- factor) -- making the armor 'investment' costs to a great deal recoverable. (In fact, in most cases the armor 'appreciates' and does not 'depreciate.')
Rechassissable Body Modules
P.D.I.C. has engineering and molding capabilities to design and produce your vehicle of the future. Presently, P.D.I.C.'s standard models of cowl-mount or bumper-to-bumper rechassissable molded bodies are the:
LAV I-M 14,500 lbs. gvw LAV II 24,500 lbs. gvw - and up LAV III 24,500 lbs. gvw - and up LAV IIIe 28,000 lbs. gvw - and up AT-LAV (patented) 4x4 11,000 lbs. gvw These molded ballistic body modules feature windshield styles, client designated door placement of two available styles, and placement of standard side modules -- thus allowing the client to participate in the 'design' of the vehicle. Most bodies can be interchanged with GMC, IH, Chevrolet and Ford chassis by utilizing the appropriate cosmetic skirting kit and cowl-yoke.
Vehicle Weight
The weight of the P.D.I.C. ballistic fiberglass armored vehicle will be approximately 4,000 pounds lighter (body module - LAV I-M, LAV II, LAV III, LAV IIIe) or 1,000 pounds lighter (van - LAV I) than similar vehicles armored to the same ballistic level with conventional metals or combinations of metals and other ballistic materials. With the lighter weight of the vehicle, its payload increases, its durability and life span is prolonged, and its maneuverability is greatly improved.
Life Span
Life of the opaque armor, ARMET (a P.D.I.C. registered tradename/trademark), has been calculated to 100 years before any appreciable deterioration takes place. It is impervious to moisture, will not oxidize, and only a few exotic acids will attack the material. Even after the material has been struck by projectiles, it can be easily repaired in the field with a patch kit. Even though the material may be slightly ruptured from a strike, ARMET will maintain its original characteristics and integrity.
Comfort
The LAV I (vans) are well insulated with a sound deadening material which adds to the comfort of the personnel (elimination of unnecessary noise or discomfort with temperature change). The LAV I-M, LAV II, LAV III and AT-LAV vehicles (body modules) are self-insulating due to their composite, and are shock mounted to the chassis with a minimum of 1/4 inch rubber. The interior of the vehicles are color-coordinated with Zolatone (standard) paint, formica (as applicable) counters or work areas, and industrial grade carpeting and/or rubber mat.
